What is Love?

What follows is a recent conversation of mine that I enjoyed a lot.

KaeJae:
Tell me.
What is love?

Akshar Varma:
uh… ah..
I’ll say whatever I think. So, here goes…

Firstly, there are many kinds of love. There is a father’s love for his kids, a mother’s love for her kids and vice versa in both cases. Each would be slightly different. Then there is sibling love(/hate).

It is a feeling you can have for things too. There is no need for the entity being loved to be a human or even a pet. People may love a particular car, people may even love activities like driving or sex.

It is a feeling you have when you like something/someone/… so much that being able to access it/possess it/know it/… may all send you into a euphoria like state. You’ll feel completely engulfed in it. Nothing else would matter in that moment because the other entity is enough for you to be at peace. You don’t need to worry about other things if you know that you have(possess/have access to) the other entity with you.

This part of it makes love at least seem irrational to many. You don’t worry about anything when you are in love. This is slightly problematic as you won’t worry about getting food and other ‘required to live’ things. It is being “in the zone” when you are coding. It is the feeling of being in another world when you are reading. It is the feeling of knowing who you are when you are writing.

It is seeing beauty in someone whatever they do. Finding beauty in the brushing of teeths and combing of hairs. It is finding beauty in that particular rim for you car’s wheels. It is what you feel when you write. You feel as if this is enough to sustain me. I can live off of this. That is love.

But that is not all that love is. Love is more. Love can never be fully defined much less understood. It is different for each and everyone. Each and everything. There will be a new form of love having different meanings and forms wherever you turn. There will be as many meanings of love as there are digits of Pi.

But then again every love is the same. Every love has that surrender to it. Where you surrender everything you have for love or you can do it…

Love is more than what you read in books or see in movies. It is something that can only be hinted at. You can only find the full extent of love when you yourself are in love. You will find one of the infinite meanings of love and make it your own. Then and only then will you know what is love?

KaeJae:
Yes. I understand.

I believe love is what you feel when you find something beautiful. Something desirable. Everyone has a different definition of beauty. And that’s why everyone has different definitions and perceptions of love.

Love is Beauty.

Akshar Varma:
Hmm.. no. Love is seeing beauty. Not like viewing it, it being visible, no, that ‘s not what I mean. Love is when you finally see the beauty in something. The thing has always been in front of you, but you only just saw that it’s beautiful. That is love.

KaeJae:
Love is finding Beauty

Akshar Varma:
Yeah.. that is much better…

In the end I thought I should put this up on my blog. It is record of one of my completely random outbursts about a still more random topic.

PS: KaeJae blogs here.
